As the pendulum of Time swings, I currently see Autocracies gain the strategic initiative, even as Democracies flounder in this aspect of the Competitive Advantage of Nations.
This is probably caused by the advantages that derive from a single point of decision, as against a collective decision, especially insofar as the speed of decision-making, rather than any consideration of the greater good or Wisdom.
Even surer am I that as pendulums do, the swing will move towards the advantage of Democracies, as their citizens become more alert and demanding of their leaders, and Autocracies suffer from their dependence on the judgement of a single mind.
How long the period of this oscillation would be, I cannot say, but I hope for Humanity's sake, it is not too long!
